Director and actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday. This tragic event has prompted an immediate response from colleagues, friends, and public figures in the entertainment and political worlds.

Norman Lear's family released a statement expressing their deep sadness. "The Lear Family is devastated by the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner," they said. The statement noted that Norman often referred to Rob as his own son, highlighting their meaningful bond. "Norman would have wanted to remind us that Rob and Michele spent every breath trying to make this country a better place. They pursued that through their art, activism, philanthropy, and love for family and friends."

Lyn Lear, Norman's widow, reflected on the loss, saying, "The world is undeniably darker tonight, and we are left without them."

Reiner became well-known for playing Michael "Meathead" Stivic on Lear's groundbreaking sitcom "All in the Family," which aired for nine seasons from 1971 to 1979. In his 2014 memoir, the late Lear described Reiner fondly, noting his endless energy and passion for life and the causes he believed in.

Christopher Guest and Jamie Lee Curtis, who worked closely with Reiner on "This Is Spinal Tap" and its recent sequel, shared their grief. "Christopher and I are numb, sad, and shocked about the violent, tragic deaths of our dear friends Rob and Michele Singer Reiner," they stated. They emphasized their commitment to supporting Reiner and Singer's families during this difficult time.

Former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama released a statement mourning Reiner and Singer. They highlighted his major contributions to film and television and praised his lifelong dedication to making the world better. "Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose," the Obamas wrote.

Director Ron Howard also paid tribute, describing Reiner as "an outstanding filmmaker, a supportive colleague, and at all times a dedicated citizen." Howard acknowledged their long professional relationship spanning decades.

Other colleagues in the industry, including director Paul Feig and actor Josh Gad, shared heartfelt memories of Reiner's impact as a filmmaker and as a person.

The Los Angeles Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances of their deaths. Reiner and Singer were married in 1989 and had three children together.
